Alessandro Carbonare has been Principal Clarinet of the "Orchestra dell'Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia" in Rome since 2003. For 15 years he lived in Paris where he was principal clarinet (Clarinette Super-Soliste) of the "Orchestre National de France". As Principal Clarinet he also played with the Symphonie Orchestre of Bayerrischer Rundfunk of Munich, the Berliner Philharmoniker Orchestra, and the New York Philarmonic Orchestra. He won many international competitions around the world: Geneva 1990, Prague 1991, Toulon 1991, ARD Munich 1991 and 1992 and Paris 1992. He was awarded two "Diapason d'Or" and he recorded most of the repertoire for Harmonia Mundi and JVC Victor, giving an important impetus to new music for clarinet. He commissioned concerts to Ivan Fedele, Salvatore Sciarrino, Luis de Pablo and Claude Bolling. He is a passionate chamber music performer; he is a member of the Quintetto Bibiena and collaborates frequently with important artists and friends. His musical interests also widens to jazz and klezmer. "Guest Professor" at some of the most important schools of music throughout the world (Royal College of London, Juilliard School in New York, Conservatoire Superior of Paris and School of Arts in Tokyo), he has also been a panel member in some important International Clarinet Competitions (Geneva, Munich, Prague, Beijing, "K.Nielsen" in Odense and the "B. Crusell" in Finland). He was invited by Claudio Abbado to enter the "Orchestra of the Luzern Festival" and the Mozart Orchestra as Principal Clarinet. With the Mozart Orchestra he recently performed and recorded for Deutsche Gramophone the K622 Concerto for Basset Clarinet. His new CD for Decca "The Art of the Clarinet" has just been released. In January 2010 he will collaborate with the New York Philarmonic Orchestra as Principal Clarinet.
