Alessio Allegrini is Principal Horn of the "Orchestra dell'Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia", of the Lucerne Festival Orchestra and of the Mozart Orchestra founded by Claudio Abbado. At the age of 23 he was chosen by Riccardo Muti as Principal Horn soloist at the "Teatro alla Scala" in Milan. He has been guest Principal Horn in prestigious international orchestras, among which: the Berliner Philarmoniker, the Bayerischer Rundfunk Orchester and the Mahler Chamber Orchestra. He has won many international awards, among which the Prague Spring Competition and the A.R.D. Competition of Munich; he has performed as a soloist in many concerts under the baton of such conductors as Claudio Abbado, Riccardo Muti, Myung-Whun Chung, Jeffrey Tate and Antonio Pappano. He has also collaborated with prestigious musicians such as Salvatore Accardo, Ian Bostridge and Antonio Pappano, with whom he has recently performed the European premiere of Elliot Carter's Concerto for Horn at the Auditorium Parco della Musica in Rome. As a teacher, he is regularly invited to hold master classes in important Academies and Universities worldwide, such as the Royal Academy of Music, the Royal College, the Guidhall School, the Birmingham Conservatory, as well as in Latin American and Japanese University. He has been recently appointed International Visiting Professor at the Royal Academy of Music in London. He is also socially committed to supporting projects which aim to improve society through music education: he contributes to the Orchestra Juvenil "Simon Bolivar"; he is the President of the humanist "Associazione culturale Eleuthera" in which the Human Rights Orchestra has been created; he collaborates with the sociologist Shizuo Matsumoto, engaged in the exchange between Italian and Japanese cultures, with Ramzi Aberdwan, a young Palestinian musician who has endured the brutality of the first Intifada, and with Emergency. In 2006 he received from Don Mazzi's Exodus Foundation the "Premio Internazionale la Casa delle Arti" for his ability to combine his professional commitments and his lifestyle. His live recordings of all Mozart's concertos for Horn and Orchestra with the Mozart Orchestra directed by Claudio Abbado is soon to be released.
