Principal horn of the Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, Guglielmo Pellarin was born in a family of musicians, receiving his first training from his oboist father and his pianist mother.
He began his horn studies at seven years of age, earning a diploma with top marks from the Udine Conservatory, where he studied with Maestro G. Arvati; he then attended master classes in Portogruaro, Ferrara, Fiesole and Pirano, and completed his training with Corti, Corsini, Vlatkovic, James, Maskuniitty, and Seeman, after which he joined the Orchestra Giovanile Italiana.
He has worked with a number of orchestras – including Trieste’s Orchestra del Teatro Verdi, Orchestra del Teatro alla Scala and Filarmonica della Scala, and the Orchestra Filarmonica Toscanini – and with such conductors as Pappano, Abbado, Gardiner, Gatti, Gergiev, Harding, Kytajenko, Maazel, Masur, Matheuz, Metha, Oren, Pretre, and Bychkov.
A frequent guest at festivals and concert seasons, he plays on a regular basis as a chamber musician and soloist with such artists and ensembles as Allegrini, Oliva, Di Rosa, Carbonare, Zucco, Lovato, Vignali, Nordio, Devia, Flaksman, Holliger, Lonquich, Trio di Parma, and the Ex Novo Ensemble.
He played the world première of the Concerto for horn and strings that the composer F. Perez Tedesco dedicated to him. Working with Federico Lovato, he recorded, for the Audite label, French Music for Horn and Piano – a single-theme album dedicated to French music for those instruments – which includes the first recording of the Sonata for French horn and piano by J. M. Damase; in a trio with Francesco Lovato, they founded the Opter Ensemble which, in addition to the traditional repertoire, has performed exclusive arrangements by D. Zanettovich and F. Francescato of Brahms’s Serenade op. 11 and R. Strauss’s Till Eulenspiegel’s Merry Pranks.
Frequently invited to hold master classes and courses, he is Teacher of Horn at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia and at Padua’s Conservatorio C. Pollini. After earning a university degree in Mathematics at Università di Padova, he has continued his scientific studies, attending the master’s degree course in mathematics at Rome’s Università la Sapienza.
