Ciro Visco graduated from the Naples Conservatory in Piano, Singing (both the performing and didactic fields), Choral Music and Choral Conducting. He also studied composition and attended courses in orchestral conducting at the Accademia di Santa Cecilia. After having assisted Maestro Giacomo Maggiore at Teatro San Carlo in Naples, when Teatro Verdi in Salerno was re-opened he was invited to conduct the chorus there for various productions (including Falstaff, Nabucco, Lucia di Lammermoor, Cavalleria Rusticana and The Barber of Seville).
From 1997 to 2000 he worked alongside Norbert Balatsch at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia; following that, as chorus master for numerous productions, collaborating with conductors and composers such as Giuseppe Sinopoli, Myung-Whun Chung, Jeffrey Tate, Roberto Abbado, Yutaka Sado and Ennio Morricone, among others.
During those same years, he conducted Carmina Burana by Orff, The Vespers by Rachmaninoff, and choral compositions by Schubert and Brahms at the Accademia di Santa Cecilia. He rehearsed and directed the Santa Cecilia Chorus on several tours, including those to London (the Verdi Requiem with Chung at the Royal Festival Hall), to the Brescia and Bergamo Festival (Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony), and to South America. He also took part in events such as the Concert at the Quirinal for the Celebration of the Republic (with Roberto Abbado) and in the concert for the inauguration of the restored façade of Saint Peter’s (Charpentier’s Te Deum with Chung).
Ciro Visco has been chorus master at Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa (from 2001 to 2010), at Teatro di San Carlo in Naples and at Radio France.
As a choral conductor, he has made recordings for a number of major labels, including: Deutsche Grammophon (the Misa Tango by Bacalov, with Chung and Domingo), Sony (music by Morricone), Decca and TDK; and as a pianist, for La Nuova Era.
Since 23 March 2010 he has been the new Chorus Master at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, a position he inaugurated by conducting an important and meaningful concert in Aquila last April 6th, on the anniversary of the earthquake that devastated the capital city of the Abruzzo region.
