  • Beethoven Concerto per pianoforte n.5 "Imperatore"

If you still think that classical music is inevitably destined for audiences "of a certain age", you just haven't been paying attention. Chinese pianist Lang Lang, born in 1982, was heralded by the New York Times as "the hottest artist on the classical music planet", and according to Time Magazine, is "one of the one hundred most influential people in the world."

Even more than a global phenomenon, he's become a global brand: renowned Steinway & Sons piano-builders have created 5 versions of a "Lang Lang Steinway" for early music education; thanks to him, 40 million Chinese kids have begun studying the piano; his blog is followed by 6 million people every day; his name is on headphones and digital Walkmen; he was the first to perform a concert with the YouTube Symphony Orchestra; he has recorded a concert in 3D; and he has launched an app for IPads (Magic Piano) that transforms the coolest digital gadget of our times into a keyboard.

Lang Lang is not only considered an extraordinary musician, an authoritative interpreter of great music and a keyboard virtuoso; he is also seen as an artist capable of interpreting our own times, moving the art of music through every medium - from the most common to the web - to reach the broadest possible audience. Above all, he has an astonishing ability to communicate with youthful audiences - and that is the essence of his mission: attract young people to classical music, show them how beautiful it is, how full of life and passion.

Returning to Rome once again, Lang Lang will offer three "must-hear" events, demonstrating his gifts as a pianist in very different surroundings: in recital, as soloist with the Accademia di Santa Cecilia Orchestra under the direction of Carlo Rizzari, and in an exciting workshop involving 100 young piano students who will have the extraordinary chance to attend a special lesson and even play together with one of the most in-demand maestros in the world.
