Ramin Bahrami suona Bach
Saturday 16 February 2013
Sala Santa Cecilia at 18 - turn A-A1
Orchestra dell'Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia
Andrea Battistoni direttore
Ramin Bahrami pianoforte
  • Bach Suite per orchestra n.3 BWV 1068
  • Bach Concerto in fa minore BWV 1056
  • Bach Concerto in re minore BWV 1052
  • Musorgskij Quadri di una esposizione

"Johann Sebastian Bach is like a world I imagine still possible. He's a German composer, but he fell in love with Sicilian rhythm, which is full of Arab influences, while the Chaconne is a dance born in Central America. His music combines rigor and imagination; listen, it gives back yet remains itself. He connects, never separates; his mind and heart are open. If only his music could speak to politicians!"...

These are the words of Iranian pianist Ramin Bahrami, forced to leave his country when he was only 11 (he turned 36 at the end of December) after the advent of the Ayatollahs, who murdered his father after accusing him of being an opponent of the new regime. It was precisely his father who had advised him as a child, "Spend time with Bach! His music will be of great help to you"...

Once a student of Piero Rattalino and of the great Rosalyn Tureck, today Bahrami is one of the greatest Bach interpreters in the world, so it is truly a gift for Santa Cecilia audiences to be able to hear him play two of the Keyboard Concertos by the illustrious composer from Eisenbach, accompanied by brilliant young conductor Andrea Battistoni. Opening the evening, Suite No. 3 for Orchestra, also by Bach (featuring the lovely "Air on the G String") and concluding it, Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition.
