According to Billboard, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was 2016's worldwide top-selling artist. An authoritative voice in the field of music of all genres, the magazine puts out its Billboard Hot 100, the prestigious chart that surprised readers by ranking Mozart as topping the charts with a total of 1.25 million CDs sold. Not bad for a "little genius" whose 261st birthday will be celebrated on 27 January 2017, and whose music remains fresh to us today. And who other than a contemporary opera star like Cecilia Bartoli could give voice to Mozart's most beautiful arias? Her name, known to the aficionado and the non-connoisseur alike, carries with it an immediate explosive charge; she is one of just a handful of opera singers who over the course of a brilliant career has been able to combine top-level talent and professionalism with boundless fame: tens of millions of CDs and DVDs sold, plus prestigious awards, such as her Gramophone Music Awards and five Grammys, to name but a few. Every Bartoli project is an event that further consolidates her enormous popularity. Over time, her great talent - cultivated at the beginning by such great conductors as Karajan, Barenboim and Harnoncourt - has yielded excellent fruit. Happy birthday, Amadeus!
