A presence in Santa Cecilia concert seasons since the 1980s, sometimes doing double duty as pianist and conductor, Alexander Lonquich offers his faithful public precious explorations, with single-theme programmes by composers who help us render the meaning of an era when the piano reigned indisputably supreme.
During the November chamber season, two appointments will focus on Robert Schumann, one of the most intense figures of German Romanticism.
Schumann is a poet who expressed himself through sounds that, far more than any words, expressed the impulses of his tortured soul.

16 November: Schumann I
The first concert is dedicated entirely to the rich sound suggestions of the chamber music pieces that engaged the composer's creativity over the last decade of his life: Piano Quartet op. 47 and his Fantasy Pieces (Fantasiestücke) for Clarinet and Piano, Op. 73. Four exceptional performers, first soloists at Orchestra di Santa Cecilia, will share the stage in this initial encounter: Carlo Maria Parazzoli, Simone Briatore, Luigi Piovano, and Alessandro Carbonare.

28 November : Schumann II
Schumann's piano work takes centre stage at the second appointment, which opens with Intermezzi Op. 4, his first masterwork composed at twenty-two years of age, and continues with the cycle of the Fantasiestücke op. 12, born in the tortured years of forced separation from Clara. The concert concludes with the collection of Davidsbündlertänze, dances of the imaginary companions of David (Schumann himself), at the composer's side in the ideal struggle he carried on in his writing against conformist criticism and a bourgeoisie suspicious of artistic innovation.
