Playing early music requires knowledge of the secrets of performance practice connected to a repertoire that used instrumental techniques and ensembles different from the symphonic arrangement. This is why the customary appointment with the great Baroque masterpieces is usually entrusted to experts capable of bringing the music of long-ago eras back to life. It will thus be Federico Maria Sardelli, joined by the musicians from Accademia Barocca and the Santa Cecilia Chorus, to recreate the sumptuous atmosphere of early eighteenth-century Rome, where Händel arrived at barely 22 years of age, bringing with him a fervid musical imagination and the exuberance of his youth. His matchless mastery at the harpsichord and organ opened the doors to the palazzi of Rome, and there, under the aegis of the marquis Ruspoli and of other important patrons, Händel wrote joyful music, full of verve and inventive force. After numerous secular cantatas with which he conquered the most refined circles in 1707, in just a few months he composed the psalms Dixit Dominus and Laudate Pueri. Dating to Händel's London period are his Concerto grosso op. 3 no. 2 and Concerto op. 4 no. 3 for organ and orchestra, where for the first time the organ was fully exploited in its virtuoso possibilities outside the liturgical use customarily reserved for it.
