The Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia’s “JunIOrchestra” is the first youth orchestra ever created within the realm of Italian lyric-symphonic foundations. Launched in 2006 at the behest of Bruno Cagli, it now consists of about 260 players, divided by age into four sub-groups.
Participants are guided into playing the great symphonic repertoire; they perform music that ranges from Vivaldi to Rossini, Mozart, Tchaikovsky, Bartók, Puccini, Beethoven and many others, all in original versions. In addition, the young musicians delve into the chamber repertory as well, coached by very experienced teachers, including members of the Orchestra of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia. Orchestra experience is a fantastic way to learn to play with others, to listen and be listened to, through sharing the wonderful world of music. Hence, the economic support provided by Lotto-Lottomatica and the City of Rome has been crucial in contributing to the consolidation of this important initiative.
