September opens at Santa Cecilia with an immersion into the sound universe of Sergei Rachmaninoff (1873-1943), with the performance of his four Piano Concertos, the Second Symphony and two symphonic poems: Isle of the Dead and The Rock. The Accademia, which in 1933 hosted the composer and pianist himself at the Augusteo as the performer of his Third Concerto, has a long tradition of performing Rachmaninoff’s music, having dedicated a festival to him in 2013, during which his symphonies and concertos were also performed.
The protagonists of this symphonic journey will be conductor Stanislav Kochanovsky and pianist Nikolai Lugansky, one of the most authoritative interpreters of the late Romantic Russian repertoire, and a regular guest of the Santa Cecilia seasons.
The performances will be recorded live by the harmonia mundi record label.
